The Hebrew expression Tikkun Olam refers to helping to repair and better the world, often referred to also as Social Justice. The mission of the Tikkun Olam Committee is to provide TBS members with ongoing information and volunteer opportunities to support this important and central tenet of Judaism. In addition to organizing Annual Mitzvah Day, the Tikkun Olum steering committee develops and facilitates projects and educational events such as collection of food for the Polk-Marion Food Share, clothes for local women’s shelters, school supplies for local foster children, and more.
We teach this to our children as they prepare to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah by requiring each student to engage in a Mitzvah Project. There have been some very creative projects over the years and we enjoy coming together as a community to support each one!
Be the change you want to see in the world!

Marion-Polk Food Share
TBS maintains a permanent collection barrel in the synagogue to help the Marion-Polk Food Share. We invite everyone, members and guests, to bring non-perishable food items when visiting the shul.
For those interested in doing more, consider joining a group of TBS members in selecting and bagging food at the Marion Polk Food Share on the first Tuesday night of each month, 6-8 pm. For information and questions call Lee Cowan, Tuesday Night Crew Chief, 503-364-1672.

Community Garden
TBS contributes even further to the Marion Polk Food Share with a community garden that produces food for the Marion Polk Food Share. The garden is in the south end of Salem on Baxter Road (near Walmart and next to Our Saviors Lutheran Church). If you have 15 minutes to spare once or twice a week, the vegetables and the MPFS would greatly appreciate some tender loving care! Contact the TBS office for more information.
